Downgrade macOS 10.16 Beta to macOS Catalina and Fix All the Issues You are Facing

Eager to learn what is new in macOS Big Sur? You can read all about it here in our launch post:

Face it, beta software is not what you expect it to be. You install it in the hopes for a brand new experience, but you end up getting a bad one for a number of reasons. For example, your MacBook now has terrible battery life, or your favorite app just refuses to launch, because you know, macOS beta. But you can make all that wrong absolutely right by downgrading to the publicly available software, which is macOS Catalina in this case. And the cool thing is, you have a number of ways to downgrade, but before we do that, there is an obvious thing you need to do.

Backup Everything

If you have files or data which is important to you then it is best that you go ahead and save it to secure location right away. Once the downgrade is complete, you will lose everything that is stored in your computer, so create all the necessary backups while you can. You can use Google Drive, iCloud Drive, a USB drive, everything and anything that you have access to.

There are two methods which you can follow to downgrade your Mac to macOS Catalina. Both of them are outlined below.

Clean Install Method Using USB Installer Drive

This is a slightly complicated method. It involves creating a USB installer drive of macOS Catalina, then performing a clean install. This method is particularly useful if you don't have access to a very fast internet connection and wish to keep a USB installer of macOS Catalina for safe-keeping anyway. You can learn more about this method by going here: How to clean install macOS Catalina 10.15 on your Mac

Install macOS Using the Internet

This involves no USB drives at all. You just boot your Mac up, press down a couple of keys on the keyboard, jump into Internet Recovery and perform a clean install from there. This method is very, very convenient and is perfect for those who have a fast internet connection at home.
