Quibi, the online streaming service, converted less than 10% of its users into paying subscribers according to Sensor Tower data shared with TechCrunch.
The new report by Quibi shows that around 910,000 new users signed up during lockdowns of which just 72,000 stuck around after their three month trial ended.
That translate to an 8% conversion rate. Meanwhile, Disney converted 11% of its free trial users into paying subscribers.
However, it also had a whopping 9.5 million people sign up for Disney Plus during the first few days after launch.
The app currently has over 50 million subscribers.
According to Sensor Tower, Quibi has been downloaded 4.5 million times since April.
It’s free trial which was initially three months but has since been lowered to just 14 days.
A statement given to The Verge said: “the number of paid subscribers is incorrect by an order of magnitude. To date, over 5.6 million people have downloaded the Quibi app. Our conversion from download to trial is above mobile app benchmarks, and we are seeing excellent conversion to paid subscribers — both among our 90-day free trial sign-ups from April, as well as our 14-day free trial sign-ups from May and June.”
One problem that Quibi may be facing is that it doesn’t have the same number of interesting shows as other platforms like Netflix or HBO or Disney Plus.
