It appears that both Facebook and rival Snapchat have been in talks with Dubsmash about a possible acquisition of the lip-synching short-form video app.
A rival to TikTok, Dubsmash generated over 30 million installs after TikTok was banned in India.
According to Dubsmash, the app generates some one billion video views per month and holds 27% of the short-form video market in the US by installs compared to TikTok’s 59%. It has 3x as many active users as Triller.
The Information reported that talks had been taking place in recent weeks and the price tag was estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
But it appears neither social network is still in talks with the company.
Dubsmash recently noted a surge in downloads following news of the possible ban of TikTok in the US.
But as discussions with Microsoft and Twitter continue, a TikTok ban in the country is looking less likely.
Meanwhile, Facebook and Snap have created their own alternatives to the popular video app.
