Last month, Instagram revealed that it was launching a competitor to TikTok called Reels which lets users record 15-second videos and then add music from a library.
The Reels app went live in India following a countrywide ban of the Chinese competitor.
Now, more details on how to use the app available for iOS and Android have emerged for creators.
According to an Instagram Q&A sheet, creators will be able to use stickers as part of a Reel. They can also access the same music library that is already embedded within Instagram Stories.
Creating a Reel is super simple and does not require outside cameras or editing tools.
Once posted, people can engage with Reels just like they do with other Instagram posts – liking, commenting, sharing.
However, Reels are not yet cross-postable to Facebook neither can they embed links or interactive stickers.
For business profiles, access to music is limited right now. And branded content tools are not available for Reels at this stage. That’s because Instagram is still assessing the feature.
In time, Instagram is likely to add branded options to the video tool.
This also means that Reels cannot be promoted right now.
