The Xbox Game Pass for PC Will Increase to $9.99 a Month

If you're a big fan of the Xbox Game Pass for PC, get ready for a price increase. The company announced that the price of the Game Pass will double from $4.99/month to $9.99/month.

This news arrived via the official Twitter account @XboxGamePassPC. It broke the news that from September 17, 2020, Xbox Game Pass for PC subscribers will have to pay more to access the Game Pass's library of games.

The reasoning behind this is mentioned earlier in the timeline. The original $4.99/month price was an introductory price to get people started with the Game Pass.

Now, the Game Pass is moving into General Availability, meaning it's now officially "out of beta." As such, the introductory price will be replaced with the "proper" $9.99/month subscription cost. If you're a current member, you'll continue paying $4.99 until the next billing cycle.

Fortunately, Microsoft has done a lot to sweeten the deal for Game Pass holders. Recently, the company announced that EA Play is joining the Game Pass library to give even more value to subscribers.

It's worth noting that this does not affect the price of the Game Pass Ultimate, which also includes the Game Pass for PC. As such, if you have a Game Pass for PC, now would be a good time to consider swapping over to the Ultimate plan.

While the Game Pass for PC is rising in price, this isn't a case of Microsoft trying to squeeze more out of its fanbase. The original price was introductory, and now that Xbox Game Pass for PC is coming out of beta, the price will rise with it.

However, with the recent addition of EA Play, the Game Pass has never looked better value for money. If more companies join forces with Microsoft in the future, the Game Pass will become a small price to pay for the sheer volume of games in its library.

And that's even before the Xbox Series X arrives on the scene.
