WhatsApp is already known as a relatively secure messaging service, and its desktop version may be getting even more secure. Data from its latest beta suggests that WhatsApp Web might receive fingerprint authentication in a future update.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Web may be in for a major security upgrade. The 2.20.200.10 update might let you use fingerprint authentication when creating a WhatsApp Web session.
WhatsApp Web, the desktop version of WhatsApp, lets you continue conversations with friends and family from your PC. If you already know how to use WhatsApp Web, then you're probably familiar with the QR code sign-in process.
Right now, WhatsApp Web requires you to scan a QR code in order to sign in. This helps verify that your phone is connected with your WhatsApp account.
To do this, you have to open your phone's camera, and scan the code on your computer screen. While it's not hard to do, it's a bit inconvenient. After all, not all smartphones support QR codes, which means you might have to use a third-party QR scanner app.
The possible update will replace QR codes with fingerprint authentication. Instead of having to open a QR scanner, you'll simply have to simply follow the prompts to scan your fingerprint.
Not only is fingerprint authentication a lot faster, but it's also more secure. If someone gets ahold of your phone, they won't be able to access your WhatsApp Web account without having your fingerprint. It's a lot safer than verifying your identity with a QR code.
There's no word on when exactly the rumored fingerprint authentication feature for WhatsApp Web will be officially released. While you wait, you can still take advantage of all of the fantastic features that WhatsApp Web currently has to offer.
