Amazon has launched a new Shopper Panel programme which lets customers earn rewards in exchange for sharing information about the purchases they’ve made outside of the eCommerce platform.
Invited customers can opt-in to upload their receipts and answer short surveys.
For 10 eligible receipts, they’ll receive a reward in the form of a $10 Amazon balance or a $10 charity donation.
Receipts must only be 30 days old and come from retailers outside of Amazon stores. Where a receipt is labelled ineligible, Amazon will label it on the Shopper Panel as such.
Survey questions are short and will mostly focus on how likely people are to purchase a product or what they think about a certain advertisement.
The panel is currently being trialled in the US with select customers so there’s no option right now to sign up.
So what’s the purpose of the Shapper Panel?
Amazon said that it would use the information to measure ad effectiveness across its platforms and help marketers understand the relationship between their ads and products more effectively.
It will also use the information to inform new products and content.
Any private user information deemed as sensitive will be deleted.
