TikTok has officially partnered with eCommerce platform Shopify to let brands and retailers advertise their products across the app.
The popular video app said advertisers could showcase their products in shoppable videos as part of the partnership.
Social commerce is a growing phenomenon, not least driven by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
eMarketer previously forecast that social commerce sales accounted for almost 12% of total retail eCommerce sales in China allow reaching $242.4 billion.
“We are delighted to partner with Shopify and provide a channel for their merchants to reach new audiences and drive sales on TikTok,” said Blake Chandlee, Vice President, Global Business Solutions at TikTok. “As social commerce proliferates, retailers are recognizing that TikTok’s creative and highly engaged community sets it apart from other platforms. We’re constantly exploring new and innovative ways to connect brands with our users, and Shopify is the perfect partner to help us grow and expand our commerce capabilities globally.”
According to TikTok’s own research, 88% of its users said they discovered new content through the app and half of them found new products through ads on the app.
Merchants on Shopify will be able to use the TikTok For Business Ads Manager
Dashboard to run their ads. Features include “1-click” pixel conversion tracking, target audience tracking, creative tools and $300 credit for eligible merchants.
In addition, the video app launched #ShopBlack, a branded hashtag challenges to celebrate businesses owned by Black entrepreneurs.
The campaign will be run using custom branded effects and creator content from November 10th to 15th. Over 40 Shopify merchants are already taking part.
