One of the most underrated advancements in the world of smartphones is chargers. Companies always talk about their new chips, cameras, and screens, but the charger and battery are what actually gives the phone life.
Xiaomi has announced a major new advancement on Weibo that'll change wireless charging technology as we know it. It comes in the form of a new 80W wireless charger that can fill a 4,000mAh battery in just under 20 minutes.
What's Special About Xiaomi's New 80W Charging Technology?
As mentioned, the wireless charging technology can completely fill a 4,000mAh battery in around 19 minutes, but that's not the only impressive thing it can do. The company says that it can charge the same battery to 50-percent in about 10 minutes. If you only have one minute to spare, you can squeeze out 10-percent in that time frame.
Currently, the flagship Mi 10 Ultra smartphone from Xiaomi features 50W wireless charging. That can fill a 4,000mAh battery in about 40 minutes, which shows how much of an improvement this new charging technology actually brings to smartphones.
The obvious question that comes to mind with such a high charging speed is whether there will be some battery degradation from the speed. Sure, it's great to have your phone charge quickly, but if it greatly decreases the lifespan of your battery, it may not be worth it.
When Will Xiaomi's New 80W Chargers Launch?
While the company did show off the speed offered by its new charger, it didn't actually say when we can expect to see phones with the new technology. Logically, we'd expect to see it announced with the companies next-generation of flagships, but we'll have to wait and see.
