Following accusations over anti-competitive practices, Apple has installed third-party app suggestions as part of the iOS 14.3 update.
What this means is that users who install the OS on their new iPhones or iPads will be shown recommended apps from third-party providers that aren’t affiliated with Apple.
The update is currently being tested in beta.
As 9to5mac.com reveals, the code snippet in iOS 14.3 points to this feature. It reads “In compliance with regional legal requirements, continue to view available apps to download.”
However, Apple hasn’t confirmed it just yet.
Experts expect that the recommend function will only be rolled out in countries where Apple is facing legal action for favouring its own products, specifically the US, Europe, Japan and South Korea.
