Apple cuts app commissions at 15% for independent developers

Apple has launched a new App Store Small Business Program for smaller businesses and developers to boost innovation in app development.

Apple said that the program would introduce a lower commission rate of just 15% for paid apps and in-app purchases so that SMBs can invest more resources into app creation.

New and existing developers who generated up to $1 million in proceeds for their apps in 2020 are eligible to apply.

Once a developer with an Associated Developer Account crosses the $1 million threshold, the standard commission rate applies.

If their commissions drop below the mark again, they can reapply to the program.

App transfers are not possible while developers participate in the program.

Getting started is simple. Developers should already be part of the Apple Developer Program, they can verify their paid apps agreement via the App Store Connect and then list their Associated Developer Accounts.
