First time installs of mobile shopping apps surged 8% during Black Friday in the US this year.
According to data from Sensor Tower, app installs of mobile shopping apps reached 2.8 million in a single day in the US on November 27.
Although figures were similar for the previous year, overall shopping apps saw more growth this year as a higher number of retailers spread out the major shopping events across the entire month.
Shopping app installs on the US App Store and Google Play climbed to 59.2 million in November, up 15% over the same period in 2019.
Brick-and-mortar retailer apps jumped 27% during the first three quarters of the year and among the top downloaded shopping apps five were brick-and-mortar categories.
Walmart saw the highest number of installs (131,000), followed by Amazon (106,000) and Shop at 81,000 during Black Friday alone.
Despite economic woes, consumer interest in shopping remains high. A growing number of them are also adopting buy now and pay later apps and shopping models.
Discount and deal apps have also fared better in 2020 than in the previous years as more consumers are shopping on a budget.
