Lomography Launches the Atoll Ultra-Wide Art Lens via Kickstarter

Most folks that work a camera will carry a few different lenses with them to take different types of photos. That's how it should be, really, but sometimes it gets a little annoying to bring so much stuff around.

If you're looking for a more versatile lens for photography or videography, you might not have to look any further than Lomography's newest project.

What Is the Atoll Ultra-Wide Art Lens?

Photography organization Lomography has launched a Kickstarter to fund its Atoll Ultra-Wide 2.8/17 Art lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Upon its release in August, it will be priced at $549, but you can get $150 off now by pledging $399 as an early bird customer.

For its price tag, the fully manual lens has a fairly impressive resume. The lens was fully assembled by hand, and boasts 13 “multicoated" elements arranged in 10 groups, with an 8-bladed maximum aperture of f/2.8.

The lens also has incredible ultra-wide field of view of 103 degrees, but can be used for extreme closeups as well. If you have a Canon RF, Sony E, or Nikon Z-mount camera, you can focus as closely as around 3.9 inches (0.1 meters). Leica M camera users will have to be a little bit further away, with a minimum focus distance of around 9.8 inches (0.25 meters).

Lomography writes that the above, paired with the lens' rectilinear optic design and lotus lens hood, delivers “eye-popping colors," "stunning saturation," and "excellent flare control imagery with reduced surface reflection."

Lomography Returns With a New Kickstarter

If you're in need of a new multi-faceted lens, the Atoll Ultra-Wide 2.8/17 Art lens could be what you're looking for. It looks like its launch marks Lomography's thirteenth successful project on Kickstarter.

At the time of writing, the project has more than doubled its $100,000 goal, so those that have pledged the minimum rewards amount can expect to receive their lens in August this year.
