Installs of streaming apps in the US jumped to 81 million during the first quarter of 2021 as COVID lockdowns kept consumers sheltering in their homes.
The top 30 streaming apps saw installs rise 13% compared to Q1 2020
That’s according to new data from SensorTower, which finds that consumers were also spending more in streaming apps than in previous years.
The top apps reached $605 million in revenue in Q1 2021, up 48% from 2020.
iOS users represented the majority of spending, followed by Google Play, which climbed nearly 5 percentage points.
Interestingly, streaming apps attracted younger audiences, which the average age of subscription-based video apps 31.1 years, compared to 33 years for advertising-based video apps.
