Disable this Feature on Your iPad to Turn it into a Proper Laptop

Disable iPad keyboard Touch Bar for true laptop feels

Today we will show you how you can turn off the ugly looking Touch Bar that pops up whenever you type using an external keyboard on iPad, iPad Air, iPad Pro.

Disable the Keyboard Touch Bar in iPadOS and Turn Your iPad into a Proper Laptop Once and for All

Apple has done a lot in the past few years to push people into using an iPad as a full-on laptop replacement. Sure, they might have succeeded for some people, but there are minor annoyances that make the iPad a frustrating device to use.

For example, if you have a keyboard connected to your iPad, iPad Air or iPad Pro, whenever you tap on a text field, the Touch Bar pops up at the bottom of the display, showing you word suggestions, emoji, copy / paste shortcuts and more. This behavior does not occur on a real laptop.

This bar does not help in typing at all. In some cases, it hides the UI elements, pushes some elements above when the bar shows up. It is a nightmare to use unless you really, really need those suggestions and shortcuts, which I am 100% sure you do not if you are coming from a laptop anyway.

The good thing is, you can disable that Touch Bar completely, giving you more laptop like feels than ever before. It is super easy, and here is what you need to do:

Step 1. Launch the Settings app.

Step 2. Tap on General.

Step 3. Now tap on Keyboard.

Step 4. Turn off these two options: Shortcuts and Predictive. If you leave one of these options enabled, that bar will just show up whenever you want to type somewhere. Therefore disable both of these features.

That's all you have to do. Whenever you type anything using an external keyboard, that Touch Bar will not show up, ever.

I have been using the iPad as a laptop replacement for a long time and this is something which has really bothered me. If you own the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro, it might not be a problem, but anything smaller than 11 inches might get in the way of that Touch Bar, therefore it is a great idea to completely disable it if you are using the tablet with an external keyboard.
