Instagram has taken the next step toward advancing its eCommerce features.
The company is testing promoted products in its Shop tab in the app right now. This means users can click to view product details and get more information or look at images of their select product.
Brands will also be able to promote their Shop tab pages via ‘Sponsored’ ads soon.
Promoted products and posts can be shared by users which adds even more potential for greater reach.
It’s clear that the events of last year have sparked a significant push for eCommerce among many social media apps.
Facebook-owned apps have all been bolstering their eCommerce features.
Instagram, for example, recently added a professional dashboard for retailers and brands.
Meanwhile, parent Facebook added Shop advertising and discovery products to make it easier for brands to reach potential consumers.
WhatsApp now lets shoppers buy direct from businesses and they can even order multiple products at once.
It’s all about seamless transitions. Eventually, Instagram and co would like to make it seem like second nature that a user can click on a product post and purchase it directly through the app.
The new Shop tab ads are being tested by select advertisers including Away, Boo Oh and DEUX in the US.
