All Apple products have unique serial numbers. If you own AirPods, knowing the serial number for them can serve you a variety of scenarios. For starters, it’s a foolproof way to tell if your device is authentic or a knock-off. You also need your serial number to know if your device is still under warranty.
Don’t know where to find the serial number for your AirPods? Below are the different ways to find it.
What You Should Know About Your Serial Number
Before you start hunting for your device’s serial number, it’s important to note that each serial number is unique. That means if you checked your device’s coverage status and found that your serial number has already been registered, then your device is not brand new.
Next, the serial numbers indicated on your paired Apple device and printed on your device, charging case, and the box should all be the same.
Now you know that, herersquo;s where to find the serial number for your AirPods.
1. The AirPods Serial Number Is on the Charging Case
Many Apple devices no longer have their serial numbers printed on the device itself. Luckily, Apple retained it on AirPods—you can find it inside the Charging Case. Just flip the lid open and look underneath.
2. Find the Serial Number Printed on Your AirPods
If you own AirPods (2nd generation) or AirPods Pro, you can also find the serial number printed on the AirPods themselves. Each AirPod has its own serial number. However, the serial numbers printed on them are not the same as those found elsewhere. So if you need a serial number for service, the serial number on the Charging Case is the best one to use.
If you have an AirPods Max, you must detach the left magnetic ear cushion to find the serial number.
3. Find the Serial Number Using a Paired Device
If you’ve already been using your AirPods with an Apple device, just head to Settings > Bluetooth. Find your AirPods and hit the Info button (i). You’ll find your device’s Serial Number along with other information there, like Model Name and Model Number.
Alternatively, if you are using a device running on iOS or iPadOS 14 or earlier, you can head to Settings > General > About, then scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap AirPods.
4. Search for the Serial Number on the AirPods Box
If you still have your AirPods box with you, you can also check the serial number there. You can find it printed near the barcode. If you still have the purchase receipt with you, the serial number for your AirPods should also be printed there.
If you’re still weighing whether to buy AirPods, but aren’t sure of their authenticity, you can simply ask the seller to show you the serial number and check the Apple warranty status yourself.
Essential AirPods Identification
Serial numbers are like ID numbers of sorts. They allow Apple to quickly retrieve important information about your devices come the need for a replacement or repair. Since every device has a unique serial number, it’s also a sure-fire way of checking a device’s authenticity.
