It seems that we can't go a year without at least one major streaming service raising its price, and 2021 is no exception. Hulu has announced another price hike coming later this year.
If you're a subscriber, or thinking about signing up for Hulu, you should be aware of this price change. Here are the details.
What Are Hulu's New Prices?
Hulu is raising the price for its two on-demand plans: Hulu and Hulu (No Ads). Currently, the base Hulu plan is $5.99 per month, while Hulu without ads is $11.99 per month.
Those prices will soon increase $1 each, to $6.99 per month and $12.99 per month respectively. If you pay for the basic Hulu plan yearly, the price will increase from $59.99 per year to $69.99 per year.
Hulu's separate Live TV plan is not affected by this change. If you get Hulu through the bundle with Disney+ and ESPN+, your pricing will not change either.
And if you're currently using a discount or promo to subscribe to Hulu, your price won't change for the duration of the promotional period.
When Does the Hulu Price Change Take Effect?
Hulu's new prices will update on October 8, 2021. At this time, the price will increase for both new and current subscribers.
If you're interested in joining Hulu at the lowest possible price, and you don't mind ads, it's smart to sign up for the ad-supported plan now at the yearly price. That way, you get a full year of service while saving $10.
Keep in mind that Hulu's ad-free plan doesn't offer a yearly subscription right now.
Rising Prices Aren't a Surprise
One more dollar a month probably won't deter you from signing up for Hulu. But when you compare the increased price to the value that the bundle with Disney+ offers, that looks a lot more attractive than Hulu itself.
Hulu isn't the only streaming platform option, so consider moving to a different one if you're not interested in its catalog at this new price.
