Mobile game Brawl Stars saw a massive spike in downloads due to its sponsorship of MrBeast’s viral video recreating Netflix’s Squid Games show, according to Game Refinery and Sensor Tower.
Downloads jumped 4.5x week-on-week in the US.
It was YouTuber MrBeast who took the opportunity on the back of the successful Netflix show and capitalised on it with a real-life version of the series (minus any bloodshed).
456 players took part to win $456,000, sponsored by Supercell.
In the week that followed, the YouTube video saw over 100 million views and downloads for Brawl Stars grew 41% to 1.4 million.
The installs were largely driven by the US where downloads rose 350%.
Player spending was also up 54% to $8.2 million.
Brawl Stars currently has some 324 million downloads with Russia ranking as a top territory for installs (12% of total), followed by Brazil and Turkey. The US ranks fourth.
To date, the game has generated $1.4 billion in lifetime player spending.
