Of those, 3.6 billion were hypercasual games. But which are the top sub-genres?
Action games were the top sub-genre among hypercasual games with Runner games accounting for 297 million downloads in Q3 2021.
The leading apps by download were Subway Surfers, Talking Tom Gold Run, Talking Tom Hero Dash.
The top sub-genre for consumer spend was 4x March Battle Strategy, attracting a spend of $2.4 billion globally and 139 million downloads in Q3 alone.
Leading apps within the sub-genre included Evony, Lords Mobile, Top War: Battle Game.
Other popular sub-genres were casino games, attracting $1.4 billion in consumer spending and 51 million downloads.
M3 Meta games saw downloads jump to 133 million in Q3 while Competitive Racing games were downloads 27 million times.
The findings highlight that mobile game sending is far from slowing down.
