Meta is shutting down the Tuned social app just two years after its launch.
The app has been sending invitations to users to download their data before September 19 when the app will stop working.
Tuned was developed by Meta’s New Product Experimentation (NPE) Team in an effort to test new features and experiment with how users and specifically couples like to stay in touch.
It included messaging as well as quizzes and other engaging tools to get users to collaborate on photos, videos and voice notes and listen to music.
Meta originally touted the app as a private space for couples to save artifacts from their lives and relationship.
“Unlike messaging apps, built for the utility of day-to-day communication, Tuned is designed with emotional expression, intimacy, and memories in mind. With Tuned, you can creatively express your love, share your mood, exchange music, and build a digital scrapbook of your special moments,” Facebook wrote in a blog post in 2020.
Despite the lack of integration with other Meta services like Facebook or Instagram, the app attracted almost a million downloads.
However, Meta’s NPE appears to have a thing for debuting apps quickly to take them back down again.
Apart from Tuned, the only other apps still available on the US App Store from NPE are Move and BARS.
