Can't Stand the tvOS 14 Beta Bugs? Downgrade to tvOS 13 and Return to Normal Life on Apple TV HD

If you are here to learn about the new features of tvOS 14, then you can head over to this link for more details:

So, you went ahead and installed tvOS 14 beta onto your Apple TV because that's the coolest thing to do. Five minutes and you start to realize that the software is just not meant to be used on a daily basis. It's understandable, we're dealing with beta software in the first place so such things are bound to happen.

In order to make everything normal again, you have a choice of downgrading tvOS 14 beta to tvOS 13 right now. But, there is one catch though - it is possible as long as you have an Apple TV HD with you. The 1080p version of Apple TV. Because that is the only model that ships with a USB-C port hence upgrading and downgrading to different software is a piece of cake.

Tutorial

Step 1. Download the latest tvOS 13 IPSW file from here. Save the file to your desktop for easy access later.

Step 2. Once the download is complete, connect your Apple TV HD to your Mac or PC using a USB-C cable.

Step 3. Your Apple TV should show up in Finder or iTunes immediately. Click on the tiny Apple TV-like icon to reveal more options.

Step 4. Now hold down the left Shift key (Windows) or the left Option key (Mac) and click on the Restore Apple TV button.

Step 5. Select the tvOS 13 IPSW file you downloaded on your desktop.

The file will be extracted first, restored to your Apple TV and verified with Apple. Once everything is complete, you can start using your Apple TV as you normally would.

tvOS 14 is a great little update and yet subtle at the same time. But again, if you were hoping to use it on your Apple TV for the purpose as a daily driver then it is advised that you stay away from it. It's best that you jump back onto the beta only when it's stable enough, usually that happens on the fourth beta onwards. So, just relax and wait for a more stable version of the software to arrive to test out.
