Nintendo Will Be Releasing a New Switch in 2021

Well, without wanting to say "told you so" to the naysayers... told you so, naysayers. Nintendo is planning a new Switch console in 2021. We were right.

New Nintendo Switch to Arrive in 2021

Some seriously exciting Nintendo news has broken thanks to a Bloomberg report, which states the next Nintendo Switch will be with us by the end of this year (2021).

Rumors have been rife about when Nintendo will release the new Switch and what features it will possess. Well, now we have more information on the next Switch console and, yes, we're salivating.

New Nintendo Switch Display

The news comes as rumors circulate it is Samsung Display that will provide an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display for the next Switch model.

Samsung and Nintendo spokespeople refused to comment (of course they did). However, "people familiar with the plan" have confirmed that Nintendo is planning to unveil a new Switch with a bigger Samsung OLED screen.

According to the report, the idea is that the new screen news will create demand in time for the holiday season; obviously this would be a boon for Nintendo if it plans to release the new Switch at that time.

Nintendo Switch Gets 4K Output

Besides the improved on-board display, Nintendo allegedly plans to include 4K output as a feature of the next Switch model. This is one reason we gave why Nintendo might release a new Switch this year; gamers want 4K.

Don't forget, Sony and Microsoft have both released their respective flagship consoles. These both have 4K capabilities, so Nintendo really needs to catch up if the Switch is going to continue its run of popularity.

When Will the New Switch Console Launch?

At the moment, we don't have a release date. Nintendo's approach has always been to keep its cards close to its proverbial chest. All we know right now is that Samsung is allegedly providing the screens, and a potential holiday 2021 release is on the cards.

Given that both the PS5 and the Series X will have been available for around a year by then, Nintendo will be eager to knock both Sony and Microsoft down a peg or two. Especially now that it knows what both consoles are capable of.

Wait Patiently for the New Switch

The Switch may have been out for four years, but there is still plenty of gas in the tank, proven because the Switch is the best-selling console in the US and has been for over two years.

With that in mind, there is still time to hop aboard the Switch train and join the other 80-million users for the ride.
