September 2021 was the best month for sports booking apps yet as demand for the NFL season soared.
What’s helped sports betting apps climb dramatically this season is a shift in regulation and more states allowing mobile sports betting and sportbooking apps.
Google Play also recently updated its policies to allow gambling apps in the US.
According to data from Sensor Tower, app adoption of sportsbookers surpassed daily fantasy sports apps and has come close to traditional fantasy sports app.
Sports betting is now legal in 23 states and 8 states have enacted corresponding laws.
Americans spent around $65 million on sports. Online platforms including FanDuel, DraftKings and BetMGM have grabbed 80% of the online betting market share.
“Starting in mid-August, the volume of bets has boosted significantly,” said Andre Zammit, head of trading at Tipico. “In years past, pre-season NFL games didn’t attract much interest […], but this year we saw a real spike, and turnover has grown week on week through Labor Day with NCAA football action.”
