TikTok has announced the 100 million monthly active user milestone in Europe.
The results are a positive sign for an app that faces major regulatory hurdles and bans in the US and in India, respectively.
In line with these issues, it appears the popular short-video app may be turning to Europe to make up for the loss of users across India and potentially the US.
TikTok recently also launched the Creator Fund for Europe worth investments over €250 million over the coming three years to boost creator careers.
Within two weeks, the app saw over 40% of eligible creators enrol.
It has also launched funding worth €65 million to help those affected by the pandemic and is actively supporting healthcare workers in France, Germany, Italy and the UK.
The app celebrated the milestone by announcing a few key statistics. For example, frontline healthcare worker videos have now been viewed 300 million times.
In Germany, challenges such as #respectmysize generated over 21 million views.
“In line with the continued growth of our community, we’re also continuing to scale our own teams and operations. We now have over 1,600 employees in Europe (approx. 1,300 in the UK and Ireland alone), working across a wide range of areas including brand and creator engagement, commercialisation, music, product, privacy, policy and safety,” it wrote in a blog post.
To improve its content policy and user safety, TikTok launched an EMEA Trust and Safety Hub in Dublin Meanwhile, it appointed a new European data privacy team in Ireland.
By 2022, TikTok will be establishing a data centre in Ireland worth an investment of over $500 million.
