Facebook is reported to be developing a video streaming platform for influencers and celebrities, according to Bloomberg citing a person familiar with the topic.
The platform called Super would allow viewers to pay for additional services like customised questions to a show’s host or taking a photo with them.
Currently undergoing internal testing, Super could also promote more merchandise and products via livestream.
Livestream shopping is becoming a much bigger trend in 2020 driven by pandemic lockdowns.
Super was created by Facebook’s New Product Experimentation unit which launched back in 2019. The unit consists of an independent community of entrepreneurs who develop and test products and apps for the social network.
As a growing number of celebrities and creators are looking for more meaningful and monetisable ways to connect with their fans, Super could quickly gain traction once released.
