Love Being on Camera? Microsoft Teams Now Prioritizes Video Feeds

Virtual meetings can be productive, but they typically consist of people with webcam feeds fighting for screen space alongside people who have turned their video off. Microsoft is aiming to fix this by updating Teams to prioritize webcam feeds over people without one.

Microsoft's New Changes to Teams Meetings

While Microsoft hasn't made a huge announcement for this feature, it managed to sneak onto Teams recently. Twitter user Phil Worrell spotted the change after it went into the wild.

Microsoft explains that Teams used to put video feeds alongside people without one, which the company believes was a poor way to display the current meeting attendees. Now, people with their webcam feeds enabled will take center stage instead.

This does mean that those with video feeds will always show on-screen, even if they're not saying anything. As such, it's a good idea to ensure you look your best if you intend to use your webcam in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Fortunately, those without a webcam aren't shunted out of the call entirely. Instead, Teams will delegate those without a video feed to an area under everyone else.

Those With a Face Get the Space

It can be annoying to make an effort to look your best, only to fight for screen space with someone who doesn't have their webcam on. Fortunately, Teams will now show those with a webcam over those who don't, regardless of who is speaking.

If this news piece has you suddenly very concerned about your webcam's picture quality, it might be time to grab a new one so you can look your very best.
