The Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2 Has Android TV and a Tiny Form Factor

Xiaomi had a busy day today, as the company held a massive event where it announced a slew of new products, including the Mi 11 Ultra smartphone and the Mi Band 6 wearable.

While most of the announcement was focused on devices we wear or carry around in our pockets, Xiaomi also spent some time talking about a new version of its popular Mi Smart Projector called the Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2.

It takes the features offered by the original and builds on them in several key ways that'll make it worth picking up for anyone who needs a small projector with high brightness.

What Makes the Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2 Worth a Look?

The biggest improvement from the original Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector is the brightness. While the first model only supported 500 ANSI lumens, the Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2 offers a brightness of 1300 ANSI lumens. That's almost three times the brightness from one generation of the projector to the next, which is a ridiculous jump.

Outside of the brightness, the new Mi Smart Projector 2 has a 1920x1080p resolution. While it would be great to see support for 4K, the relatively low price point offered by the Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2 prohibits UHD from being included. It also gets HDR10 support and you can project that 1080p resolution to a screen size between 60 and 120 inches.

As for the audio, there are dual 10W speakers and support for both DTS-HD and Dolby Audio formats. The projector can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker when you're not watching anything, which is a nice bonus that makes this a well-rounded piece of tech.

The speaker comes with Android TV installed out of the box, and it is certified by Google, granting it full access to Google Play and all of the apps that come with it. You can also beam content to the projector from your smartphone, as it has Chromecast support. Xiaomi didn't announce which version of Android TV would be installed, so we'll have to wait until the speaker is available to find out.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2 Availability

Xiaomi announced a €999 final price tag, with early pricing set at €899. That translates to about $1,177 in the United States.

The company didn't announce an exact release date, nor did it announce which regions would get the device. We can assume it'll come to Europe, as the company announced the device with a price in Euros, but we'll have to wait and see where else it comes.
