If you're in the United States or Canada and own a Vizio TV that supports SmartCast, you can now use the Apple TV app.
Vizio TVs are generally considered reasonable value entry-level sets when compared to the likes of Samsung or Sony.
The Apple TV app allows you to access any rentals and purchases you've made through the platform, along with the ability to stream Apple TV+ with a subscription.
You can also use the Apple Channels feature to access premium networks like CBS All Access, Showtime, and Starz.
If you have a Vizio SmartCast TV with SmartCast Home from 2016 or later, you can also get a free three-month trial of Apple TV+. But only if you're a new user.
Providing you own an eligible Vizio TV, you should see the Apple TV app on your SmartCast Home screen.
You simply need to input your Apple ID account details. If you don't have one, you will be instructed to create an account.
The Apple TV app is available for free, but the Apple TV+ streaming service comes with a monthly cost of $4.99 that can be canceled at any time.
Apple is slowly expanding the availability of its Apple TV app. Of course, you can use it on Apple products like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. However, while traditionally Apple has kept its gates closed, the app is also available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and some Samsung and LG TVs.
This isn't the first Apple feature to come to Vizio TVs. The television sets also support HomeKit, a framework to control smart-home appliances, and Apple AirPlay 2, which gives you the ability to mirror your iOS device to a TV.
